Same with us. We usually have a house sitter for most of the time we are way and two very good neighbours, one on each side, that keep close eye on things. One has a key and checks the house daily if it is vacant.

But you are right I think to be concerned. Try to make sure that someone close knows you are away and that can keep a lookout.

We're secluded and our actions are random, we don't recieve mail or papers at home. Our drive is gated. Google is incorrect in the physical placement of our address. Not a bad base from which to build security.

Still, posting online of a coming trip can be a weak link, but here goes; we're going here next: Fun!

Besides, anyone who passes by here regularly will immediately know that our 5th is gone.

Interesting twist is last night on TV I watch a TV ad for State Farm Insurance. They stated in the ad not to announce you will be traveling or away from home for a period of time. I wonder if they will/could use this in the future to deny or increase deductible for a claim should there be a break-in stating you were at fault similar to auto insurance. Just a thought as Insurance Companies are always changing the rules.

Gated Community with good neighbors who keep watch. Besides, not really much in my house that's worth stealing...

The big joke here is that we stayed at an Encore resort. They wanted to produce a park directory with everyones home address. Now Encore may do a check on it's residents, but if the directory ever falls in the wrong hands, say a outlaw son in law, all the residents homes that are vacant for the winter are there in the directory.

Don't fall for any of these scams that seem innocent up front but expose you.

That's why I pay for home insurance.

We don't worry about it. Life's too short, and that is why you carry insurance.

We are full timers now, but up until we left in 2011, we didn't lock our house unless we were going to be gone overnight or longer. We never locked our cars. There still have not been problems in our old neighborhood and I wouldn't hesitate to leave things unlocked now. And, we lived near/at the edge boundry in a large city.

anyone who wants to know can find out from simply watching your house (if they're targeting you) and if they're not they probably won't be reading about your plans on the forum. Never hurts to take all precautions but as one who stores the RV beside my home, it sure doesn't take a genius to know when I'm gone lol.

We don't snowbird, yet, but when we leave for extended vacations, we do nothing except let our neighbor across the street know where we are going and how long we expect to be gone. He has our cell numbers.

We never lock our doors, can leave the keys in the cars in the driveway and have never had a problem. I'm not even sure where the keys to the house are. :)
