All you need to do is get a map and follow along. They show driving the roads and where they camped. Moistly boondocking. You won't believe the great FS and BLM places they found for free. I'm just saying if you have this trip on your bucket list or just want to dream this is like doing it. It shows an adventure like this is possible. Each segment shows costs they incured. If you make it from Ca. up I-5 to Wa. the worst is over.

I would go across border at Sumas, WA and take the Fraser River Canyon.

What part of Washington?
Avoid CAN 5 up the Coquihalla. It has a pretty steep climb. It isn't too bad, but many find it steep.
CAN 1 along the Fraser River is an easier route, however it has twists and turns.

There really isn't any, there are a few ups and downs but nothing to worry about.
