Dunedin, Florida

After some research and input from this forum, we have decided to put Okeechobee Fl away and visit Dunedin Florida. Mainly because of the Pinellas Trail. Any recommendations or input for Dunedin,
would be greatly appreciated.
  • Thank you for all the GOOD info. We had a great time and used most of your ideas.
  • The trolly is interesting. It goes from down town, just past the cruise terminal and channel side (shops and restaurants) and the tampa bay times forum (where the lighting hockey, play) and travels over to historic Y-bor city (thus, where the columbia is) Y-bor city is also a great, old florida city and has roots with spanish history and great cigars! You can easlily spend a day walking around there. The week-end nights can get a bit roudy though.

Since you are not too far from Tampa, I would go to the original Columbia. We were there last January and it is very interesting and huge. I have not been to any other Columbia so I cannot compare. Friends took a reasonably priced trolley tour of downtown Tampa area and said that was worth doing.

We rode the Pineallas Trail around Dunedin but did not check out the location of any restaurants.

If you like art shops you will be busy! When spring training starts, go see a baseball game and root for the Toronto Blue Jays.
  • US 19 through Dunedin is awful with traffic. Alt. 19 is not. Check the campground in Dunedin very careful before you select it. They have more restrictions that any other campground in FLAUSA. Age of RV, pets, type of RV, number of people in RV, etc.

  • The town of dunedin is a nice, old florida town with some good restaurants and window shopping. But, you will be done in about a half a day. The closest beach is either north to tarpons springs or south to honeymoon island. ( About equal distance) I don't know anything about rv parks as we have never had a need to stay over there, we only live 45 minutes away.

I assume you want to bike or walk the trail? It goes for miles as you may know ( owned a house on the trail some 13 years ago.)

You can always spend a day at the tarpon sponge docks or head more south to clear water. That entire coast is very nice and has many spots for relaxing and enjoying the best of Florida.
  • Last fall we went to the Dunedin RV Resort for a rally and bike riding. We were very happy there. They have numerous level pull-throughs with good power, & full hookups. Nice pool & clubhouse. We just walked our bikes across Alt 19 and through the fruit market's parking lot to get to the trail. Here's their website: http://www.carefreervresorts.com/rv-parks/florida/dunedin/
There is a nice restaurant nearby (just on the other side of the Pinellas Trail) - Ozona Blue
