Durango, Colorado camp spots?

For the town of Durango itself - you'd have good weather through October - generally. You know how weather is unpredictable.

However, if you get into the higher elevation such as in Silverton, I'd say mid-September.

X2 on Alpen Rose. We stayed there two years ago and will stay there again this year. Nice place and good people

How late in the year would you go to Durango? When does the weather go downhill?

Can't remember the name of the CG offhand but we stayed in a commercial one just N of & out of town a little way. We are usually SP people but this one was woodsy, close but not too close sites & had a huge fenced dog run.

Durango to Silverton is a little edgy but not nearly as bad as Silverton to Ouray. Ouray back to Silverton is evan worse, as I recall. Met an 18 wheeler, saw his back wheels leave the pavement as he approached me. He did a good job of correcting before we passed. Looked like a 1000' drop to my right. No shoulder. One of those slow motion experiences. Wheew!!

Thanks Sidwells. I checked out the United website and could only find pictures of surrounding attractions none of the actual sites. Viewing the map it appears that the sites are side by side with no buffer or privacy between them? What say you?

We just left Durango end of the year, I would go with United Campground.
