East Coast Suggestions for a late summer trip

Okay board I will admit it, we are a west coast snob family. We LOVE the west coast national parks. We crave Yellowstone, Yosemite, Sequoia, Redwoods, Grand Canyon, Arches, Rocky Mountain, and the Grand Tetons. We love the vistas, hikes, and climbs but seem to find ourselves living on the east coast of the US (Fayetteville, NC).

My question to the board is this, what places am I missing on the East Coast? I am trying to plan an east coast trip for late summer / early fall for 2015. Can you recommend any really good places where we can hike, see wildlife, or unusual features?

We are a family of four and can spend 7-8 days on the trip. Looking for any and all suggestions--especially those parks that are "unique".

Thanks!

If you like NP camping out west you will like camping in White Mtn NF is NH. The camp sites are more secluded than the NP's. Hike Mt Washington or Mt Chorora, float the Saco river or visit some of the water falls. Arcadia NP in ME. is nice also.

Wow--you might have found our destination! We are LOVING the pictures we are finding on the internet! Where would you suggest staying in the area? Woodstock? Jackson?

Great ideas for us, especially since we homeschool! I haven't been to Colonial Williamsburg since the early 1990s...

How about Acadia NP in Maine?

Thanks for the suggestion. We will do some research on this--looks promising but kinda small...

Thanks for the suggestion, but luckily for us we tend to hit up the Great Smokey's when I have a long weekend. I was looking for something a little further out.

    That said, thanks again.
