East Harbor State Park - Ohio

Since it is -5 today, it seems like a good idea to stay inside and research campgrounds for this summer. I'm looking for some feedback on East Harbor in Port Clinton, OH.
Does anyone have information as to sites, experience, etc?

If you have a better choice, I'd like to hear that as well. We're traveling from Illinois and plan to visit Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.

  • We enjoy both East Harbor and Maumee Bay. Both have access to Lake Erie. Depending on the algae bloom, the swimming might or might not be a good idea. Lots of biking around, lots to do in the areas. Lots of the sites in East Harbor are pull-thru but some are not exactly level. but doable. Sites in Maumee Bay are all back-in.
  • It has been years since we were at East Harbor SP but it was quite nice. Check their website as there are some sites with full hookups.
Maumee Bay SP is also really nice. The only drawback is electric only. You can reserve 6 months ahead of the dates you want to stay. Sometimes this is good if you want particular site. Good Luck and Happy Camping
  • You will like the Park, I would suggest the end sites in any of the C loops. We stayed at C 14 and it was big and rather private. C 15 was great too. The beach is nice, a short bike ride away. Cedar Point is terrific. Put in Bay is not for the kids, especially on the weekends, it's quite the party place for adults. Kelly's island is much more kids friendly. We used to take our bikes on the ferry and make a day of it exploring the island. Look for Toth's Ice Cream in a nearby shopping center. Marblehead Lighthouse is a must see, charter a fishing trip for perch or walleye fishing.
  • East Harbor is a very nice State Park. A lot to do around there. Cedar Point is fairly close. A lot for kids to do. There also is a State Park called Maumee Bay State Park. It also is a very nice park. It is about 30 miles north of EH. Both are on the lake. We live about 6 miles from Maumee Bay State Park.
