Estes Park, CO Boondocking

We are wanting to make our first trip to see the Rocky Mountain National Park.  Just wanting to know if anybody has boondocked between Estes Park and Meeker Park to the south.  There appears to be NFS land just east of Highway 7.  THANKS!  BTW - we are planning our trip for the last week of September.
