Sounds like a great plan. We like Bayou Segnette for New Orleans. Quiet, spacious, etc. Also like Buccaneer, one of our favorites even before it was destroyed by the hurricane. Very nice now with full hookups and nice bathhouses.
I think the kids will love Huntsville. . . adults too. You've done your research.
If you can squeeze in some time, Breaux Bridge was mentioned. Cajun Palms camp is nice. That area and nearby Lafayette is rich in Cajun history. We were there 2 years ago. . . I learned a lot. Had not really understand about the Cajun people and it is quite a history lesson your children may enjoy.
Don't know if you can add the Natchez Trace. . . depends on where you want to end up on your trek back to Michigan, but it's a lovely drive with historical stops along the way. It's slower, but you can go from Natchez to near Nashville with no stoplights or signs. Our favorite drive.
