Yes the "bug killed" trees are especially bad on the west side of the pass but not unknown even in the east. Timber Creek USED to be fully shaded and was a very nice place to camp even during hottest summer weather. Now it's almost barren. When you go back again, be sure to drive the "Fall River Road" up to the restaurant at the top. Very scenic area.
