There are several Corp of Engineer's campgrounds on Lake Sidney Lanier in Georgia. We stayed at Bald Ridge Creek CG. Can't say much about the boating or fishing. We were there in 2007. That was the year that a faulty level guage caused the Lake to drain. We walked around the Lake on the lake bed and looked at all of the boats sitting high and dry. LOL
Another nice place is Caney Creek RV Resort in Harriman, TN. Very nice place. Located of the Tennessee River. They have a dock where guests can tie up their boat.
I believe a lot had to do with the drought as well. COE lakes are notorious for changing the water levels. Lake Thurmond constantly drops the water level. The corps sells it off to the hydroelectric station down below the damn. My in laws property that they had on the lake over in Modoc would increase in size often (more land/less water). During the drought of 2007, their dock was barely in the water on the back end. Completely out on the front end and normally it's about 30-40 bridge walk to the dock across water.
