Favorite Florida State Park

We really like Manatee Hammock. It is county ran.

Dunnellon, Rainbow Springs, Crystal River. Several real nice State Park CG's all within 45+ minutes of Lady Lake! The deep crystal blue springs and rivers are just spectacular.

There is supposed to be one of the largest oldest tree in the Goethe National forest in Levy county. I still want to get there to see that this year. They suggest to go during the winter months to avoid the bugs because it's way off the trail. :W

Permitted camping allowed at Goethe Levy County and there are 2 or 3 CG's just outside the National Forest.

All within an hour of Lady Lake!

Ichetucknee Springs State Park. Good RV parks nearby, excellent tubing, and good boiled peanuts! :)

Hillsborough River is nice as well.

Paynes Prairie - near Gainesville - Buffalo, gators, deer, snakes, wild horses, birds and some great hikes.

I visited most of the major Florida parks tho they are adding them faster than we can keep up. And we've also been to lots of other state and federal parks. I'd still say that Myakka is just about unique. You will certainly see more gators than you knew existed.

10 hour drive for us over 2 days. They were well worth the drive!

Since we rarely go to the Orlando area we prefer the State Parks in the Panhandle. Our favorite is Ochlockonee River. We also like Blackwater River and Rocky Bayou. lizzie

We like Alifia River and Myakka River in that range. The newer Prairie Ridge section of Myakka is really nice, with full hook ups, well graveled concrete curbed sites, and paved roads. The equine section at Alafia is fun to walk around, usually with several beautiful horses to admire when they're not on the trails. Myakka has plenty of activities, including air boat rides and a tram ride, plus camper activities in the pavilion near the entrance.
