Favorite RV park close to downtown DAllas?

I’ve looked at several but they are 20-30 miles from the city. Do any exist?

  • Having lived in the Dallas area over 30 years.

Short answer: NO - none exist.

Longer answer: Where in Dallas do you need / want to go. My home for the first nine years was 8 miles straight line distance from downtown Dallas. A 20-40 minute drive most days. I moved out to be 20 miles from downtown - that was an hour drive most days. The last eight years before we went full-time in March 2014 was 22 driving miles from the LBJ/I-635 freeway, and I was considered as living in the Dallas metro area.

There are COE campgrounds on Lake Lavon to the northeast, Lake Lewisville to the north. A great state park on the southwest at Cedar Hill - cheapest full hookup campground in the area. There is one FHU commercial campground close to Lake Ray Hubbard to the east of Dallas between I-30 and US-80. There is one commercial campground north of Dallas just across the Lake Lewisville bridge.

A great former COE campground is run by the City of Grapevine.

There is a semi-rundown mobile home park which offers camping / RV spots in Carrollton - probably the closest to downtown.

Folks who live in Dallas/ the Dallas metro-plex will easily drive 60-80 miles each way to work every day.

    It is a BIG area.
  • I don't believe there are any close to downtown. You wouldn't want to stay there anyway. Dallas is a high crime area for having your tires and anything else stolen that isn't nailed down. There have been a lot of instances of people going into a restaurant for lunch and seeing their trailer or truck being driven off by a crook. You would be better off to drive the extra miles and avoid the Dallas, Irving and Arlington areas. I have lived here for most of my life and for the last 10 years,I will not be in Dallas after dark.
