The problem is not lack of campsites, the problem is the park you are choosing. Getting a reservation in Ludington parking lot (oops I meant State Park) has been an issue for the last 10 or 20 years. This is nothing new. There are 102 other state parks in Michigan, do you self a favor and quit fighting a losing battle and move on.
Look at the current thread "Favorite Campgrounds in Michigan", or start a new one "Favorite State Parks in Michigan" and you might just find that you've been parking lot camping when you could of been having a family vacation.
