The DW and I made Q last year for the first time for the show. We stayed at Hi Jolly for an overnight a couple of years ago because I was too tired to go on into LA and home. Been there once before maybe 35 years ago to visit dear departed rockhounding mentors. It sure changed a lot.
The DW was afraid that if we drove the RV in for show week that we couldn't find a place to dry camp or even in a paid campground. I tried to tell her that are about 18,000 acres of designated BLM camping and surly there would be space somewhere. Stayed in Blythe and commuted along with a lot of vendors.
So now to the crux of it all, Beer Belly's", it is a show week must. Even if you don't like or drink beer, go, look, listen and watch the dancers. You can tell the locals from the show crowd, the show crowd wears matching western style(square dance) outfits especially in turquoise and they have clear complexions, the locals wear T Shirts and boots and are more tan and wrinkled than the RV crowd.
Then if your just there for the show. come back a month later or if you're SBing go back in a month later and you'll be surprised at the change in clientele. A little more subdued and no matching outfits. Oh yeah, and there's parking where the tent was.
This is all said in jest, it's true but said in jest, so please don't take offence. We'll be there too in January and we may just wear our matching Aloha Shirts and flip flops.
