Finally made it to Quartzsite

Hi Jolly. That's the name of the turn off a few miles above Quartzsite. Looks just like it did on the satellite views except for there are only 7 rv's so far. I am a half mile off of the highway and found the perfect spot (for me). 85 degrees in the shade of the motorhome.
I hit 3 casinos on the way down and lost $ at each one, so far everything is going according to the plan. Stayed at casinos the first 2 nights then at Lost hills RV park in Lost Hills Ca alongside I-5. Just happened to be located right next to a truck tire shop which worked out well because when I woke up I had a flat on the inner right rear tire. Turns out that when I had new tires put on they went with the 10 year old valve stems to save me money. My mistake, if they had asked I would have asked for new ones. Anyway I had all of the stems replaced with steel stems at Gutierez tire shop. They only charged $15 per tire. Nice guys. Only set my trip back 1 hour.
Arrived in Quartzsite and got gas at the Shell on Hwy 95 north , nice lady, and she recommended the RV place a bit further North for propane, water and dump. These guys were really nice.(I forgot the name of the place but will post it when I get back there) I told them I was a newbee and they just smiled. Then they gave me some suggestions on places to park for dry camping.
Found a site that is actually flatter than a pancake (remember that term?) The first thing I did after backing in was put up a piece of 50% shade cloth that is 12x50' on the southwest side of the MH. It cut the heat immediately, glad I thought to bring it along.
Sorry it must be obvious that I used to blog and this is starting to feel like the beginning of a book. Thanks for reading.
By the way this is being typed using my laptop and the handy new hotspot I found out that I have on my att phone. Technology, amazing. Now if I could figure out how to post pics from my smarter than me phone I would post them too.
That might be High Jolly, don't quote me on that.
  • We're hoping to be down there the first of December......no go have some pizza (and free Wifi) at Silly Al's. :) :) you won't be sorry!!!!!
  • Have fun. You guys are way early. Nothing much goes on until mid January. Think that place is called Pit Stop and couple miles north of I-10 on 95 and on the east side of the hwy. They are open 24/7 and sell propane, water, and a dump. That gruff old woman is actually quite nice and very efficient. Last year they charged about $25 for water fill up and dump. Varies with size of RV. I told wife it actually varies with value of RV not the size. :B

Different RVers stay in different places. Amateurs stay south of of Quartzsite on hwy 95 at mile post 99.

Everyone should go to Quartzsite once in their life. In January it will be buzzing. Scout out the main street and the parking north of the main street behind the swap meet. Those spaces will become more important as January arrives. Hard to find parking on main street.
  • The place you got the LP, dump and water is the RV Pit Stop. About the best in town for those services, but can get very busy on occasion. You should enjoy your time there.
  • Ok. I'm in for the remainder of your story/blog. :) Wife and I are talking about coming west for a while this winter so this is interesting.
