So, now that we know that the OP's method is virtually required, I am wondering why YS has first come campgrounds at all.
Essentially, the rangers have made a system that functions as an in-person reservation system: Show up at dawn to reserve a site starting tomorrow.
But what is the point of doing that in person? If they want cg's that operate on the short term and are only available to people already physically in the park, why not just have, say, a private network that people log onto from the cg or kiosk they are currently at, and a lottery system?
This would get rid of a lot of driving / congestion, eliminate the empty campsites, let people spend fewer days in the park (since they are not wasting half days in lines) so more different people can visit the park, and be more fair to those whose health doesn't allow them to start early or stay up all night.
Seems like a win all the way around.... am I missing something?
That would be one whole heckuva lot better than what they've apparently cooked up for this year. Let's hope someone with some sense is actually in charge over there and can make some revisions to what they're doing right now.
