First time with Motorhome at a NASCAR race any advice

We are going to the NASCAR race Labor day weekend in Atlanta this will be our first time taking the motorhome to a race. I think I have the water and sewer figured out if we shower in the tracks showers. I need to know if that is a option I should use or would it be better to get a pump out from a service at the track and use our own shower. Any tips to help make it a smooth fun weekend for myself and the DW is greatly appreciated.:)

  • We went to a Good Sam Rally a year ago at Daytona, not a race. The showers there were old and nasty. And then after a couple of days were worse yet. I think using your shower is a better way to go, as said just scrimp on the water usage.
  • You might also want to talk to your insurance agent. Don't tell them your plan to go to the track, but get a estimate to increase the liability value, property damage, and medical insurance. Change it just before the race, change it back to normal just afterwords, and you will have the full coverage while at the track.

Should your RV cause the neighbor's to catch fire, and burn the whole place down, you will have slightly more protection. And it might be very expensive to bump into another RV. The extra coverage might be $200 a year, but you will only buy it for a week or less, so perhaps $20? or even $10?

    Have fun!
  • I would also just keep an eye on the tank level sensors, and conserve water as much as possible. Who wants to stand in line for a shower, and I guess they are not free. The pump out should be less than $40 but who knows?

What I might recommend is using the black tank some more. Like do dishes in a dishpan, and save the gallon or so of water in a used milk jug, and use that as flush water. Any excess water can go into the toilet.

I have a tub/shower, and can plug the tub. Then I can use the dishpan to scoop out about 2/3 of the shower water, and either refill the flush jug, or pour it directly into the toilet, and avoid filling the grey tank.

If you get desperate, you can also fill a 5 gallon pail with shower or sink water, then dispose of that at the nearest toilet.

These are great tips for both dry camping in the forest service campgrounds, and at a NASCAR race, where dumping the grey water will get you fined and kicked out too!

Have fun at the race. Bring along towles, someone will say "I want to put a chair on your roof" and you will be thinking a towel would be nice to have under the chair to avoid roof damage. Or let them sit on the towel on the roof, no chairs at all.

  • Just keep turning left and draft when possible to conserve fuel....LOL

The two of us can go for a week without using up the water or filling the holding tanks. 3 or 4 days is a piece of cake just be conservative as suggested above. Cook on the grill and Use paper & plastic to save on dish washing.
  • The track showers get pretty "nasty" pretty quickly! If the two of you use water sparingly (assuming you have an average sized holding tank) you should do OK. As DH calls them, do "ship showers" (get wet, water off, soap up, water on) you can use as little as 2 gallons each!!
If DW has long or thick hair, would need more water for sure!!
  • if it is just the two of you you should be fine using your own if you turn off the water while soaping up. 3 of us used to make 2 days of showers at Talladega in my travel trailer without filling up the grey tank.
