First winter in Yuma "Water quality"?

We have only done short trips around our home state of Oregon, so seldom have we used water hookups just run out of fresh tank filled at home with city water.
This December we are going to be in Yuma at a park for a couple of months and wonder what the water quality of Yuma is and if water filters are needed and if so what people are using?
  • Brita water for our pets.

Well actually, they're not pets, they're cats.
  • As a sidebar note, we've had issues (as have other snowbirds) with pets and changing water qualities. We've learnt to give pets bottled water once we're on the road. Lot cheaper then a vet bill in an unknown area.
  • I have spent the last 8 winters in Yuma.

I do not drink Yuma water :E. Reverse osmosis, bottled water or water from one of the many water stations all over Yuma.

Yuma water can be used for showering and bathing but not much else.
  • OP here.
Thanks all for your reply's. Old-Bisquit we will look into a water softener.
  • Yuma water hardness is ~20 grains per gallon of calcium carbonate ------HARD water.
SO it WILL leave white deposits on faucets, shower walls/door and inside toilet.

It is OK to drink/cook with but makes lousy coffee/tea hence the bottle water.

Water Stations (pay) are readily available for filling 5 & 1 gal bottles....some even have hoses to fill RV tank

In-Line filter like the blue screw on are activated charcoal for removal of chlorine but do NOT remove calcium/magnesium.

A Softener System is needed to remove the calcium and magnesium to reduce hardness. Portable resin bead softener or a reverse osmosis system.

We use an On-The-GO portable softener and have to regen it (box of table salt) every 5 days or so.....2 adults/1 dog....to minimize scaling inside water heater, faucets, toilet bowl/inlet valve and shower stall.
Plus the bottled water for coffee/Ice tea

  • We have been going to Yuma for the Winter since 1997 and most people that I know buy bottled water to drink or we go the different places that you can buy 5 gallons at a time for 50 cents. We have filtered water in our house in Yuma.

We use an inline filter at all times. The simple blue one that Hel-mart sells, nothing extravagant.
