We are looking for a campground in Florida between Christmas and New Years, wanting warm weather so we were thinking below Orlando area.Would like to have a pool and bars and restaurants close. Any help would be great.

As to weather, well it's possible to be cold, (freezing) no matter how far south you go. Consult with farmers almanac and the Weather with Andrew, which is a world wide analysis of probable temperatures due to major influences like El Nino, Artic fronts, (which move south), and pressure centers at the surface. As to any places having open sites, that's about 5% so if they are booked ask to be put on cancel last minute list. I think the weather is predicted to be mild, and not freezing, but that could change.

Toss up on temps in winter in Florida. You are not going to find much availability that far south and some limited availability up in the north. I have worn shorts in North Florida on Christmas day and seen freezing rain once.

The only RV Park on Pine Island that amounts to anything at all is a KOA and $$$$

I know that the weather can not be known but which campgrounds would most suite our needs?

As its already been said, weather in FL during that time of the year is a toss-up. Yes, shorts on Christmas or standing close to the fire, either one. I've froze my butt off in Okechobee during December/January. If you want a pool, it better be heated indeed.

AS others have mentioned, it all depends on the year. I spent a Christmas vacation in the Orlando area that started out below freezing & ice on the trees. A few days later it was shorts & tee shirts.

How far south do you have to go into Florida during the time of year OP asked about to be able to use an RV resorts un-heated outdoor pool. If heated I guess that would change the direction to further north. I know it will be weather dependent but on average. Can you be in Daytona typically and use an outdoor unheated pool that time of year or do you need to be South of Tampa for example. tks

captbru, do you miss the Island? I really do. It was nice to lower the boat ("The Pigfarmer") off the lift and head to the out-Islanders and pull into Barnacle Phil's for a jerk chicken sandwich. A lot of good times but it just got too much to take care of.

Not going back and forth here, not good for the forum. We lived in Bokeelia for 11 years. Pine Island is a great place to visit and enjoy everything on the Island. There are a lot of choices in FL, it will be a hard choice.

We lived in St. James City for 18 years until we sold out and went full-timing. Anything you want to know about the area, feel free to PM me. Bert's bar is basically a biker bar and it is in Matlacha that I mentioned in another post for you. Woody's is cool and the Waterfront is a good restaurant. Captain Con's in Bokeelia is good too. A really good one is The Lazy Flamingo in Bokeelia (the northern tip of the Island) It is a Restaurant/bar with good seafood and great wings. One of our favorites. There are no beaches on Pine Island but you can go to the greatest beach in the world (IMHO) Sanibel or Captiva. HOPE THIS HELPS.
