Yes, I do not mean to downplay Yellowstone at all. It is nearly as large as the state of South Carolina. We spent a week there in September 2011 and drove every road at least once - so diversified and so much to do and see.
I cannot, though, imagine being there in the summer with the crowds! :-)
We lived in Estes Park, CO 1995-2003 and love Rocky Mtn NP and there is so much all thru Colorado.
And Glacier is outstanding as well.
We were to Mt. Rushmore this last summer - should do Custer SP and the Badlands as well to make this worthwhile - Rushmore is only a day in itself. I would certainly pick CO as the route though.
