Forest Service closes all camp grounds in OR - Sept. 30th

Here is the link:

https://kval.com/news/local/campgrounds-trailheads-sno-parks-in-oregon-closed-to-support-governors-executive-order

The article says all campgrounds, etc closed through Sept. 30th unless rescinded. But the premise is that they are closing due to public restrooms and such. The Governor of Oregon is doing everything to keep people from going places and gathering outside of their homes.

I sure think this is overkill.

  • Oregon has as of today has 1,321 Corona virus case and 44 deaths. How many more cases and deaths would it take not to be “overkill?”
  • Why stop at lowering the risk and why only for COVID? They could close them all permanently and eliminate any risk of anyone ever getting infected with anything.

IMHO it is better to be safe than sorry. It is possible the shut down can be amended at a later date. Keeping the majority public safe outweighs the freedom (camping at that) of the few.
  • A good way to direct spending toward higher priority items. You can argue what does or doesn't constitute a priority. How this is determined and who is making that determination will be a discussion far into the future.
