It's the same reason for stopping at Wall Drug. Just to go there. Obviously, neither is a scene of natural beauty, and neither is a place of cultural knowledge, yet each is somewhere to say you've been.

It is a tourist trap! Nothing but a very small monument with markings on the ground and the small post. Many vendors give it a carnival feel with sideshow like barkers. There are many awe inspiring things to see and contemplate in the area including Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, Ute Mountain Tribal Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Anasazi Heritage Center, and the Trail of the Ancients Scenic Byway.
