From central Fl. to Natchez

I would like to travel the Natchez Trace this summer from Natchez to Memphis. I would like to know interesting places and campgrounds to stay and see while traveling from Central Fl.to Natchez. We travel in a 35' class A m.h.
Thanks
Steve
  • We visited this area several years ago and fell in love with Natchez Mississippi. The trace was nice, but the sunken trace and the history was amazing. A short hike to an old church with continuous services is quite lovely and interesting. We stayed across the Mississippi River in Vidalia, LA at a great campground right on the river. I cannot recall the name, but I think it is "River....something" and the only one right across the river from Natchez. The city of Natchez has lots of historical sites to see and in fact, we stayed about 6 days there to take it all in and I would return again.
  • If you are going that way, I can tell you where to find the best Fried Chicken in MS. also. I know its the best because the owner said it was, and sang to us while we ate! He is right, it is the best I have had, but I am not an expert (in that).

You have my mouth watering! Tell us anyway, we will be down that way again, you can be sure of that!
  • In Florida at Marianna is Florida Caverns State Park. Sites are a bit tight so another option in the area is East Bank Corps of Engineers campground.
In Pensacola is the Naval Aviation Museum.
For Natchez we like River View RV Park in Vidalia Louisiana across the MS River from Natchez. Beautiful Victorian homes on the MS River and the cemetery in Natchez has night tours with actors in period dress.
We drove the Natchez Trace in one day but we didn't stop except for lunch. 17 miles south of Tupelo is Davis Lake Campground. Water and Electric. I would make reservations there.
In Nashville, we like Two Rivers Campground.
  • Natchez Trace SP in TN. The one in MS is close to the Trace, down around Natchez. We have stayed at both. If you are going that way, I can tell you where to find the best Fried Chicken in MS. also. I know its the best because the owner said it was, and sang to us while we ate! He is right, it is the best I have had, but I am not an expert (in that).
  • Natchez trace runs from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN., passing through the upper Corner of Alabama. Natchez Trace State park(TN) is about halfway between Nashville and Memphis, and is NOT on the Trace. It is a beautiful, but slower route and we highly recommend it. We have done it in a 30' class A with toad several times. Closest approach to Memphis is over 100 miles. What is your final destination?? Be sure to allow time to visit and study the historical sites and history of the area.
