So, this is the first year that we have been RVing, and this time of year is definitely frustrating. We live in Georgia, and of course, Florida, where the weather is nice is pretty much all booked up State Park wise, through March. Due to work my time has to be pretty much in conjunction with weekends. I haven't been camping since New Years and Im getting happy feet and need to get on the road.I will find SOMETHING to do in Feb, and I am learning what everyone already knows. Book well in advance. Georgia and other parts North are too cold right now... Might change later on, and I can travel elsewhere, other than Florida. Im sure I can find something here in Ga, we prefer mountains over beaches overall and it's just not quite that time yet. Just expressing the winter time blues I guess. Can't wait until spring!!!!Mike

Just was at Topsail in Destin Florida - not horribly cold - this past MLK weekend the campground was full - you will have to plan ahead and make reservations far in advance

I'm Georgia (Atlanta area) and camp all year, weekend trips around work.Florida - and the nicer options down there, stay booked through the winter. Sometimes checking for cancellations works. Good Winter options:Savannah - Skidaway Island Nice campground, interesting city to visit.Stone Mountain in Atlanta (if you have not tried it), nice park, with activities. Full hookups, with winter, can keep camper nice and toasty and then be active during the day.Won't be long - weather will start to warm up, then Mountains will be more enjoyable... North GA Mtns, Smokey Mtns, Asheville, Chattanooga,......Markimark:C

Yeah, been to Skidaway recently, so looking for something different.Have thought about Stone Mountain, so might look into that. Been there before, a couple of times, but not for camping.Yup.. just want the weather to warm up. I want to go to Tallulah Gorge, several spots in Tennessee etc...Mike

The train doesn't run, but you can hike to the top of Stone Mountain, and hike over to the granite quarry. That place was empty the January we went there - only one other camper on our loop:

Pine mountain is great and always something to do at Callaway.
We also used to really enjoy West Point Lake, Scheafer Hurd campground at the dam is open year round.
We used to camp about 45 out of 52 weekends when we lived in Morrow Ga, just south of Atlanta.

Peace... Yeah, I know it sounds like Im whining, and I get that there are folks that have a lot worse weather than I do. Im just getting cabin fever and combination of cold and rain here in GA is impacting, as well as the fact that work has been busy and weekends end up being taken up by something other than camping.

You better believe it! March is a little early for me in Maryland usually. We do try to get a February Florida trip in every year if we can. This year we have a mid March trip scheduled, my cousin is getting married on the Eastern Shore. Our in-laws are going to bring their camper too and watch the kids while we are at the wedding. That will be the earliest Mid Atlantic camping we've ever attempted. Hope its not still snowing!!!

Why does camping in a RV require it to be warm outside????

We were for several years three season campers Fall, WinterNow we are at that point that we just make it work.
I consider it camping weather if daytime temps get above about 35 degrees. It is a good workout for the furnace!!

For real! Lantley (if he is home) and I are about to get 2 feet of snow starting tomorrow. Its been lows in the single digits most of the week. I realize this pales in comparison to Maine, Michigan and Minnesota, but I would LOVE some 50 degree temps right now and a chance to go camping!

We leave in 21 looooong days for our Florida trip. We will stop and camp NORTH of you in Savannah on the way down, then again in Charleston on the way back up. Before kids, and hopefully in a couple years when they are a little older, we used to camp in freezing temps. We went to the Poconos in November and it was bitter cold. We went to NYC in December and it was even colder!

I would think living in the SE would be even better than living in the PNW for winter camping. We just spent a week over New Years on the Oregon Coast. No the weather is not tropical, highs in the high 40's and lows in the low 30's. The park was about 2/3 to 3/4 full for the weekend. Camping is not only a summertime affair for about 1/2 of the country.
I do feel sorry for those in the NE and Mid west as tough when the temps tend to be below freezing a lot. I have not winterized since the new Years trip, just watching the temps, could get another trip in before the end of February to the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, when the two SP just north and south of Newport are filled.

Enjoying beautiful Nocalula Falls in Gadsden, AL as we speak. Little cold and wet but that's why we have RV's. Lots of good hiking, black squirrels to watch and the falls are beautiful. Might even get some snow tomorrow.

X2. If you think you've got withdrawal symptoms, here in northern Minnesota, we store our travel trailer in December ( we love to do fall camping) and Don't see it again until early May (when the snow finally is gone). And some people here start storing their campers in September!

We went to Huntington State Park near Myrtle Beach,SC 2 years ago over Christmas.The day we got there it was 80. The rest of the week in the 50's and 60's.It's a nice campground with 130 sites.Some wooded some open.Some full hookups,most water and electric.Some nice restaurants right up the road in Murrels Inlet.
