Full timing in Atlanta help

I'll be moving down to Atlanta sometime after my fifth wheel is ready for pick up and have been suffering through user reviews on RV parks in the area. It seems that one would be ideal for full time living. Does anyone have any good suggestions for places to stay within an hour drive of Atlanta? I'm planning on being in the area for no less than a year.
  • On the Northside, Harvest moon in Adairsville is a good choice but it is not close to Atlanta and shopping is a bit of a drive as well. I stand by my suggestion of Twin Lakes RV Park. Great shopping close by, available wifi, reasonable drive with parking to rapid transit into Atlanta, and located in a very safe area. Stone Mountain is another good choice, but double check the fees and if long term is allowed. Rapid transit is close, but not necessarily in the safest of areas of Atlanta.

I'm quite pleased with the reviews for this park. Best I've read so far. Do you have an idea of the rates? There' son link to rates on their website.
  • Thanks for all the suggestions... I really appreciate the insight. I'm familiar with the traffic. I lived in Chattanooga for 2 years and made regular trips to/through ATL. As I understand it, that city was named worst traffic in the country. Yikes!
Right now my preference is north side only because I still have friends in Chattanooga I hope to visit often, but I have no preference related to job commute. I am self employed and will be working out of my home/RV every day.
  • People telling you to not go have missed the point. You are going as the decision is made.

The advice given to determine what side of the city is spot-on. It will save your sanity once you have that narrowed down. I heard just yesterday Stone Mountain was looking for hosts, if it helps any.
  • Remember an hour drive to city is usually only to the Perimeter, depending on where you need to be and when, you could easily add another hour or two to your commute.

DD lived less than 20 miles to her job, just inside perimeter. Her commute took anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours each day. She moved a bit east, so she didn't have to take I75 to 285, and although it was about the same distance, she rarely had more than a 30-45 minute commute. A good friend lived inside the perimeter and commuted to a job outside, she is almost always able to drive at the speed limit, as she is going opposite traffic both ways.

So give us your location and those of us that are familiar with the area, can give you some pointers as to what is available and the ease of the commute.

  • I am unfortunate to say that I have lived in the Atlanta area for 50+ plus years and the traffic can be debilitating. Th previous advice is spot on...decide where in Atlanta you need to be then some recommendations can be forthcoming. If you have no preference, then I suggest the Northside and for long term stays thn Twin lakes RV Park in Cumming is a good choice.

I've seen Atlanta traffic. You might have to decide first which side of Atlanta you need to get to. 1 hr from the south side could be 2 hrs from the north side.

I agree after you decide which side of town you need to be on look for a place about 60 miles away...no joke Atlanta is a bad place to be.
