Looking to go to Galveston and wondering if any campgrounds within walking distance to activities or if public transportation is nearby. Any help is appreciated.
Love Sandpiper. It is the most convenient to most things in Galveston, but they have now priced me out at nearly 80 bucks a night on weekends in peak season.
Dellenara is a good choice right on the beach on the west terminus of the seawall.
Bayou Shores is decent and convenient, but expect your camp neighbor to be about 10' feet away from you.
Galveston Island SP is OK and about 6 miles out of town.
Never stayed at Jamaica Beach but hear it's pretty decent. About 6 - 7 miles out also.
Most of the RV Parks with beach access are on the west end of the island and are not near the main tourist areas. Sandpiper is on the east end, Dellanera, Galveston State and Jamaica Beach are on the west. If you will go here, I think you will find that almost none of their bus routes will work for you. http://www.islandtransit.net/
I would recommend having a car or tow vehicle to get around. Jamaica Beach is a nice park. We'll be going there the end of the month. Another place is about 10 miles north on 45, Ron Hoover RV Park, they have a great staff and it's quiet, we stayed there Memorial Day weekend.

The trolley wasn't functioning last I heard. (409) 797-3900 is their phone number. They do have city buses but are geared for workers not tourists. It's very spread out and depending on what you want to do, I would take a car. Check things to do at their Information Center or on Trip Advisor. enjoy your trip!
