Gas way down

It spiked twice this year here in CA and never went back down. I paid $3.55 this morning and may stations are close to $4. In spite of our highest gas tax in the nation and the cap and trade carbon tax on our gas, there is no real reason it should be this high. Refiner's profits are currently triple or more their average take, but no one will do anything. We keep hearing all the usual excuses which fall apart when scrutinized, what we are essentially left with is this is what they want to charge, and there is nothing anyone will do about it.

They closed a refinery in IL, so it is a local upper Midwest thing where the price is going up. Currently more then diesel.

OP, yes, we have bigger plans this winter. The current thought is to head over to FL (Oct/Nov), RGV(DEC/Jan/Feb), over to AZ (March) and then vacation back north (April/May.) When gas was $4-5/gallon we would head south, but nothing like the above.

SO NOW a refinery has a hic cup and we pay for ,sounds right here in alliance ohio its 2.89 yet five miles away same company its 2.49 , me thinks I,m being ripped again.

Plenty high here in Northern Michigan, reg close to $3/gal ... news claims one refinery is "broken down" and two or three others are shuttered for "maintenance"... ya right

The refinery things are probably right. Specially California.

Every time there is a proposal to build a refinery in California the activists get the involved and the refinery does not get built.
In the midwest Gary Indiana and surrounding area used to have lots of refineries. They were forced to shutter for EPA problems.

About 2 1/2 weeks ago gas here was $2.41 IN about 8 or 9 days it was up to $3.50 and now back down to $3.15

The media indicates that the refineries are running at 95% capacity to keep up with the demand and have postponed maintenance. They have to shut down for maintenance in the fall and to re-configure for furnace oil production. Also, Canada's largest refinery (Irving, which supplies gas to the north east US) is going down for about 3 months for a major re-fit).

I'm betting gas won't be cheap this fall!

My entire life diesel fuel has been less than gasoline, UNTIL I bought a diesel, 9 years ago.

Until just recently, in some areas of the country, it has remained that way ever since.

Just came back from Sturgis. Covered Wyoming, Montana, Idoho, South Dakota.
We found gas to be in the 2.79 range all the way through.

Diesel was around the 2.50-2.60 range.

Guess I will still head south for the winter.

Canadian dollar dropped to .74 cent today.
