Getting a Florida ID

It doesn't matter what they want it for, they will not be able to get a Florida ID.

Bring to the DL office your Canadian Passport or Canadian Birth certificate and two pieces of mail with your name and Florida address (not older than 60 days). Most Canadians do not have Social Security cards, thus there is no need for the card. Canadians can get an ID card. You cannot have both a Florida ID card and Florida DL, but you can have a Florida ID card and Canadian DL. When it comes to the Theme parks and discounts it depends on the day ... sometimes the ID card is all they want, others they want the DL.

Following that link and pretending to be a Canadian all I would have to do is 'become a resident of FL and then with proof of residency I could get either a FL DL or ID'

Can't be a Canadian resident AND get a FL DL or ID Card

Larry, did you read the link you posted? There is NO way a Canadian snowbird will get a FL ID, unless he has declared residency in the US and has received a SS card, which no Canadian will do.

Beginning January 1, 2010, Florida has new documentation requirements for residents renewing or obtaining a new driver license or identification card. For office visits, you must bring original documents that prove your identity, social security number and residential address.

Check with your Canadian bank for affiliation with US bank. Direct deposit for cheques. I would think a Florida ID would require Florida residency. As a Canuck, I can't see how you could be a Florida resident.

Under the "enhanced ID" law that the DC congress enacted, when a state comes into compliance like Florida has, they can NOT issue an ID to a non resident. That is one reason many states are refusing to issue the enhanced ID.

You are not a US citizen; you cannot obtain a government issued ID card unless you can show legal permanent USA residency. Government ID cards are just like a drivers license without the driving privilege. I bet I could not get government ID in Canada, either!

I also take offense that you has a visitor in Florida want to receive the special discounts theme parks give to local residents.
