Air down as much as possible, it's been proven in off road magazines reducing tire pressures will get you 50% farther before getting stuck. Dragging the EBrake or service brakes very lightly will also help "Lock Up" the rear end reducing the chance of one wheel digging it.
When in Doubt, Gas it Out does not apply to sand. You will only dig deeper and get more stuck than you were seconds before.
When we leave Glamis dunes literally just before leaving I will water down the sand for about 2 truck lengths in front of my rear axle. Wet sand gives much more traction and holds more weight than dry. It gives me the opportunity to get the momentum I need to carry on to the road.
