Glacier - Red bus tours

Considering adding to a trip, a couple of days at Glacier NP late August. Just wife and I. Is Red bus the best way to see the park, if so, which of the tours would you recommend? All day or.... If I drive, the wife will see the park and I'll see going to the sun highway. That's the reason for the Red bus idea.
  • There is also an Indian-run bus tour which think is better because it is air-conditioned. The Red bus has open sides which can be a bit chilly. The bus picked us up at St. Mary's KOA.
One thing I learned on the tour from the Indian driver/guide is that the Indians did not name the mountains like the white men.
  • We took the tour from the East side and truly enjoyed it. We did this last September and it was a bit on the cool side, but still great.

I't hard to believe that these 1937 buses or worth about $300,000 each.
  • We took the red bus from the west side. Wonderful trip...neck was so sore afterwards from all the swiveling back and forth to see everything. I don't remember if it was 1/2 day or full. Given a choice right now, I'd definitely take the full.

  • We took the all day. It was definitely worth it. We were staying on the east side. From there the 1/2 day tour is pretty short and misses some of the high stuff. The day after the tour we took the shuttle so we could get off and on to spend more time at some of the interesting places. Like you say if you were driving you would miss so much.
