Goblin Valley is one of my favorite Utah state parks and they have some extraordinary gems like Kodachrome, Snow Canyon and Coral Pink Sand Dunes. They belong to the public and are in our care to pass on to future generations. Jail will really serve no purpose to educate them as to why what they did was wrong. I believe some long hours spent in community service and a fine that would pay for supervision for that service and also restoration of the toppled goblin. One time we were at the park, the head was really malodorous. maybe they could do some toilet duty.
I just do not understand people who deface and desecrate our parks and monuments and don't get me started on the vandalism of native rock art. Or people who purposefully walk where there are signs that specifically prohibit walking off trail (restoration projects). At Yosemite once, a couple walked off trail right by the sign. I yelled at them and they shrugged and walked off. Maybe they were from out of the country but the sign was international with a hiking shoe about to step on a plant and a big red circle with a diagonal slash so it should have been understood. I left a note with the words "shame on you" on their windshield.
There is probably a reason that we frequent parks less than we used to: stupid inconsiderate people. What I can't understand is why people speed to get to the next turnout. I understand even less why they do this with kids in the backseat with clearly marked no passing zones and on blind curves.
Okay, rant over.
