You may want to try Deam's Lake State Recreation Center in Borden, Indiana
I have only camped there with horses but they have many sites around the lake no sewer hook ups but a dump station. It is 31 miles from Churchill Downs but much nicer camping in the country. The KOA would be much closer to everything if not booked, never stayed live too close. Good luck it's crazy around here at Derby time.

The Kentucky Horse Park is 77 miles from Churchill Downs and I bet it fills up fast.

You will be doing good to find a spot anywhere during Derby Week without a reservation at least a year in advance.

The Kentucky Horse Park should be all anyone would ever need.

Haven't started there myself, but Kentucky Horse Park gets a lot of good reviews.

EDIT: Sorry, read Louisville but thought of Lexington. Still reportedly a great park, but a bit of a distance away from where you're asking about.

We stayed at the KOA in Clarksville, Indiana, just across the river from Louisville. Full hook-ups. Spaces a little tight, but enough room you can get your slides and awning out. We stayed there 3 nights to attend the Barry Manalow concert this last Spring. The campground was more than adequate, especially since we just wanted somewhere to park so we could run around, and then had our own bed at night. The campground was clean, neat, well maintained, and the owners took a lot of pride in it. I'd go there again if ever in the area. It's open all year round and has water all year too.


I suggest making a reservation right now! For an event like that, they might even already be booked solid! Plan ahead! now!
