One of two simple solutions - get a friend to get there early to save you a site or get there earlier yourself -
"The volunteer camp host stated that holding sites until everyone arrived was allowed." Did I miss something?
Yes his interpretation was that it was allowed, based on the fact that the office handed out the tags. He did not consult anyone, he was simply shooting from the hip.
It's Columbus day the HQ offices are closed. I will follow up and seek clarification from HQ.
It still seems odd to me that campsites are distributed first come first serve yet a site is unoccupied the next day.
I guess it's first come first serve unless you are in a group. Then it becomes do as you please.
If 8 campers show up ahead of me and takes 8 sites that fine. I'm OK with it that's the way it is designed to work.
However if only one camper shows up ahead of me and claims 8 sites I have a problem.
While most of these sites were close together, The group leader claimed the larger sites vs. sites grouped together. As you can imagine my 40' RV does not fit in every site.
So I squeezed into a less desirable site while a larger more accommodating site was left vacant by the group.
Yes I was irritated, Despite what the camp host thought. I don't believe the system was designed to work that way
