Ok people that are trying to go to the Grand Canyon. There is another way into the park that can not be controlled by the feds. Stop driving up to the gates to be turned away, or even when it is open.
Most are going by car anyway so pass the main gated areas of the park and head west on Interstate 40 to the the town of Seligman where you can get on "Old 66" and drive to the town of Peach Springs. This town is on the Hualipai Indian Reservation and is the gate way to the " West Canyon" ( most people don't know that this exists).
You purchase a pass from the Indian Center at the hotel and then you drive 30 minutes to the top of the canyon where you now start down a dirt road going in between the canyon wall all the way to the Colorado River. You will be at a place called Diamond Creek where they take out the river rafts on the half trip. You can drive right to the river bank but be careful not to drive into the river. There is camping, hiking and a lot of photographic sites, all for $12.50
