Grand Canyon Camping

Welp, waited too long to make reservations to Grand Canyon Trailer Village, all booked up for June. Any suggestions for a full hookup campground to see the Grand Canyon and surrounding areas? Thanks
  • If you can live without hookups: In a less developed area, the NPS Desert View Campground, at the east entrance to the park (25 miles/ 41km to the east of Grand Canyon Village,) is first-come, first-served only.
No reservations are accepted. There are no RV hook-ups at Desert View.

This is in high, dry Arizona, you should not need electricity for the A/C. It will be cool up there....even if warm in the daytime.

We have used the Forest Service Campground near Flagstaff & Sunset Crater Nat'l Mon'l to do a day trip to the canyon in the past. Also first come/first served & no hookups. Bonito Campground

    Other Forest Service Campgrounds.

Grand Canyon Trailer Village might have a spot by the time you get there as well. ? Not all reservations are kept.

There are several RV Parks in Williams: RV Park Reviews
  • Don't know if you'd be interested in this, but we stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams....took the train up to the Canyon and the trip included a bus tour of the Canyon with stops. Their website is www.thetrain.com.

Williams is a neat little town with lots of Route 66 things. Also, south of Williams you can take the Oak Creek Canyon drive to Sedona for some really pretty scenery.
  • As LindAnn indicated the train is a great way to get to and from the Grand Canyon. Beat the crowds.

If you have AAA you can get a discount on the train package which can include campground fees for the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams
  • There is a full hook up campground in Tusayan, just south of the park. Grand Canyon Camper Village.
Ten-x campground is between the park and Tusayan. Dry camp only, first come first served.
The only other full hook up sites are in Williams.
  • Very rarely do we go without hookups but one of the few exceptions was our stay at Mather CG in Grand Canyon. We'd do it again! You can fill your fresh water tank on the way in and dump grey/black water on the way out. Very quiet and you get the faint aromas of pine trees and campfires.
  • We were just at GC last year at Trailer Village and thought it was great. Like the OP we did not make reservations early enough but I checked every day and after a couple of weeks a slot opened up and I got it. It is so worth it to stay in the park and use the shuttles to get around. Very convenient.
  • Dbolasky, I have reservations at Mather for the week following 4th July and have a question regarding length limits.
I have heard that they have a combined (vehicle+trailer) length limit of 30ft but no where on the reservation system or website do they state this. I do see that they have a 30ft trailer or RV limit which is fine for me but am wondering if you have any issue given your setup listed in your signature.
    Thank you
