I have a 4 1/2 YO, 14 YO and 16 YO, so its kinda hard to try to plan something that all three will be able to enjoy. Have been to Yellowstone a few years back and will be going again, but I want to wait till he gets a little older. There is alot of driving and walking in Yellowstone so that might be something you want to consider.
Something to consider:
Stop #1 Mueller SP in Colorado Springs CO (Air Force Academy, Pike's Peak, Garden of the Gods)
Stop #2 Ridgway SP in Ridgway CO (either the Elk Ridge site # 181,184** or 186) or the Dakota Terrace. These two have easy access to the beach to swim. You can easily spend several days in this area driving Hwy 550 (Million Dollar Hwy) to Durango. Make sure you go to Ouray, Silverton and Honeyville Mesa Verde. and swim in the Ouray Hot springs pool.
Stop #3 Dead Horse Point SP campground in Moab
Stop #4 Grand Canyon
I was amazed at how nice the Colorado State Parks are, but they are both in bear country so they require taking some precautions with your food and ice chects that we dont have to worry about here in Texas.
