Reservations inside the parks can be iffy, so decide what to do and jump on it.
West Yellowstone is not that far from the junction of both loops and we saw eagles and elk herd on that road. We like N Rim because there are less people. The N Rim views are great but S Rim is better. We've stayed at Jacob Lake several times and inside N Rim once.
You could make a trip of Grand Canyon, Bryce and Zion our favorite park, as they are all close together.
