Yellowstone. 4 nights and 3 full days. We like Madison campground on the west side, campground has large spaces and plenty of room. We have elk walking through our campsite before. Some of the other campgrounds in the park are tight and crowded (Canyon). If you make reservations add about 50% on the size of your tent to get a larger site. You have easy access to both the north and south loops of the park. Full day for each, well worth it. Very kid friendly.
Madison campground is close to the town of West Yellowstone where they have the grizzly and wolf center, tourist type shopping and several good eateries, kids love it. If you like mountains and do not mind drives on winding roads go up to the Bear Tooth Pass, adds about 3-4 hours to the north loop but is well worth it. The north loop has much less to see than the south.
Tetons are just an hour from Madison campground. The Flagg Ranch campground is on the north side of the park, right in between Yellowstone and Tetons. a real nice campground but a bit of a drive to Jackson about 45 miles. It takes about 2 1/2 hours when you stop and look at the sights. The campground is nice enough to make it worth it. The campground is a real campground, not a commercial place. No play ground or other things for kids but you will be out sight seeing any how. 3 nights and 2 full days is plenty.
Be prepares for higher prices for most everything. Supply and demand at work there. Lots of other travelers in the parks. Be prepared for delays from people stopping to take pictures of the animals.
All in all a great trip.
Added: did not even think about it, but you can do the Tetons, Yellowstone, head thru Cody see the rodeo, drive through the Big Horns stop at Devils Tower and then into the Black hills. See Mount Rushmore and the other sites. 2 days to the Tetons , 2 days in the Tetons 3 days in Yellowstone, 1 day in Cody, 1 day at Devils Tower, 3 days in the Black Hills and 2 days home.
