Went to both this year. I would go to Yellowstone. We, two senior citizens, spent 2 1/2 days in the Grand Canyon, but we do a lot of photography. Not sure you could spend that much time with children looking at colorful rock formations. Without hiking or bad weather you can do the whole south rim in two days including driving out to the east entrance. When we took our children to the Grand Canyon 25 years ago we took the mule ride half way down into the canyon, but I believe the youngest age for that is 8 or 9 years old.
We spent 4 days in Yellowstone and did not see all there was to see. There can be a lot of walking through the geyser basins, but there is a lot to see without a lot of walking. The children would enjoy seeing the animals in Yellowstone particularly if you encounter a bear. We took the chuck wagon ride to an all you can eat steak dinner. Fun for kids and adults alike.
We only spent 1 day in the Tetons. Took the boat shuttle and did the short hike to Hidden Falls and drove the scenic road.
I am not sure of your route to Yellowstone, but we also enjoyed Arches NP in Utah.
Here is the link to my blog from our trip this summer. You can read about what we saw in Yellowstone, The Tetons and the Grand Canyon. Arches, Geysers, and Canyons
