- LaurenExplorerUh, not exactly, DesertHawk. Does not mean big belly. Will let you look it up.
Love Grand Teton NP. We stayed at Colter Bay RV. Not cheap but so beautiful. Did every sunrise and sunset down on the beach. - EurocamperExplorer

Sure it does: Wikipedia for Gros Ventre.
You might be thinking of the translation of "Grand Teton.";) - LaurenExplorerFrom Wikipedia .............
The most common explanation is that "Grand Teton" means "large teat" in French, named by either French-Canadian or Iroquois members of an expedition led by Donald McKenzie of the North West Company - EurocamperExplorer

But Desert hawk was talking about the origin of the name "Gros Ventre," not the origin of "Grand Teton." Re-read his post. - jalichtyExplorerBeckid, got you beat by about 10 years, my wife and I will celebrate our 48th anniversary there at Leeks having pizza and beer on the deck at the restaurant looking out over the lake at Mt. Moran and all that beauty that never gets old.
- Itching2goExplorer IIFun reading this post, and thanks, RL, for your question. We're going to be at GT over the week of July 4, staying in the Colter Bay RV Park, followed by a week at Yellowstone. Haven't been to the area since 1994 when we camped it with five kids in our PUP and a spare cabin tent. Still remember the boat ride across to Inspiration (Perspiration?) point. This time it will be just me and the DW, in considerably more comfort than we had back in '94. :-)
- LaurenExplorerOooops, sorry. I thought this was referring to the OP original posting.
- RLGetmanExplorerThank You everyone for your inputs and recommendations. Our visit to the Tetons will be the first two weeks of June. Currently, we have a 1 week reservation at the Grand Teton Park RV Resort in Moran, WY, but are now looking hard at Coulter Bay for 1 week dry and 1 week wet camping opportunity instead of the RV park at Moran. Really enjoyed all your tips on what to see, where to drive while camped there. Also looking at any issues with getting from the highway to Coulter Bay (safest route). Anyway, Thanks again everyone!!!
- Itching2goExplorer IIComing from the east on I-80, the route I have laid out will take us north on 287 & 26 from Rawlins to Colter Bay. Seems to be a fairly direct route with the fewest grades. If anyone has an alternative route to recommend, I'm all ears/eyes.
- HTT_to_be_Explorer+34 or whatever we are at on Colter Bay!!! Been our family favorite since 1972 when we stopped there for a nite on the way home from Alaska. Ended up staying longer because we loved it so much, and have been returning whenever possible!
