If you don't need hookups, I would stay at Gros Ventre Campground to explore the Tetons.
I like to stay at Madison inside Yellowstone for a week to explore the bottom loop. Then I move to Mammoth Campground at the north entrance for a week to explore the upper loop.
I just don't think 3 or 4 days is enough for a first time visitor. We have been several times and it seems like time runs out and there are things I want to do.
