Driving from Alabama is a long drive to only spend 3/4 days in both locations. We spent 6 weeks out west this early summer and 5 day is a minimum for the Grand Tetons. We stayed at Headwaters but if I had to do it again I would have stayed a Coulter Bay, more centrally located for the Tetons.
For Yellowstone we spent 7 days and it was just long enough. We stayed at Grizzly RV Park, the best, in the town of West Yellowstone and was a GREAT central location. The town has 2 grocery stors, several gas stations with propane fill, a variety of nice restaurants, a I-Max theater, and a couple of museums.
Have fun.
