Guelph Ontario Conservation Area CG

We are looking at taking a trip from Fulton, illinois to Johnson Vermont next year. Google maps shows the shortest route is through Canada. Guelph Ontario seem s to be about the half way point and I see they have a large lake with a CG. Does anyone know anything about the CG: is it hard to get reservations, is it worth staying at for 2 nights each coming and going?
Thanks
  • Do you have the name of the cg?

  • I have not been to that particular park, however just a few alternative thoughts. Toronto Rush Hour is horrible on weekdays. On your way to Vermont Guelph will be near the start of it on the morning of day 2. Maybe not the best place to start day 2 if it is a weekday. Two options that are nice but not quite half way are Pinery Provincial Park which is not too far if you cross over at Port Huron, Rondeau Provincial Park is not too far if crossing at Detroit, both put you about 1 1/2 to 2 hours West of Guelph but will mean a mid day crossing thru Toronto. On the other side is Darlington Provincial Park, it is about a half hour East of Toronto and right off hwy 401. Either way these are all quite nice parks and worth stopping early or pushing thru to avoid Toronto rush hour. BTW the 407 is an expensive toll ring road around Toronto but worth it if you do end up in Toronto during rush hour.
  • You may also want to consider Green Acre Park. It's a very nice private campground very close to Guelph. The town of St. Jacobs is very close and may be worth seeing if you have time.
I would agree the traffic through Toronto can be terrible. Best to travel through mid day if possible.

  • The Guelph Lake Conservation area is quite a distance off the main highway.
We can speak for Green Acre park in Waterloo as we are staying here in our RV for the summer waiting for a new home to be built.
We left this area at 10 in the morning and we made it to Essex Junction Vermont by 8 at night.
Friends of ours from Western Illinois met us here and we drove together to Vermont.
    Easy drive.
