We spend a good bit of time at Gulf State. I'm 2.5 hours away so we go there frequently for beach trips. The camp ground is an average state park camp ground around here. The online pics make it look like you are on the beach, but as others have said, you are not. It does have a nice pool and splash pad for the kids. If you like gulf shores then gulf state is a convenient location. It's right on the coast so there are very few shade trees. Our sites are always 100% sun. WiFi sucks, our most recent site was 50' from the antenna and it still wouldn't work.
