Gulf State Park Increase rates.....again

Gulf State park in Alabama have increased their rates again. Last year they increased the monthly rate about 10%. This year the rates were increased again AND a $90 per month "resort fee" was added (approx 30%). If you have reservations and placed a deposit for 2016 be prepared for the resort fee. Rumor has it another increase is in the works. Those working at the park are not happy either! Hope they don't get too greedy and hurt the future of the park. For us Canadian snowbirds we have to add another 36%...... just sayin

  • For those of us who don't actually live in AL, I really have to wonder exactly what role the state government has in this whole park situation. Yes, parks are supposed to generate revenue to sustain themselves. Here in TN the state doesn't charge an entry fee so all are free to use, residents and visitors alike. They do charge for camping though. The state has invested in improvements that make our state parks rival any private CG. Its a shame that a state would take funds from the park system to apply on something else, if that is truly the case in AL. I don't know.
  • Alabama State Parks are self sustaining = they need to pay for themselves. This is leading to closures of under utilized parks and fee increases at others. You can always stay at private parks too.
  • Part of the price increase, they told us, was to get you on the pier. I asked if I could skip that and they said it now comes with the new price.
  • This is what I like about RVing. If not happy, your wheels can take you elsewhere. Takes less than an hour to pack up and be on the road.
  • At 600 - 700 for a month basic cost it is still a bargain - this is why they keep raising rates as they are sold out
  • Their state government is stealing money from the state parks and spending it elsewhere. They closed some parks and the ones making a good profit are having to make it up.

It's a shame. I wonder what their rationale could be for the huge increase?
