Harrisburg Pa campgrounds

Looking for a rv campground near Harrisburg Pa. One I was refered to was Harrisburg East.We want to tour the are and Harrisburg seams a good starting point. Any thoughts? Thank you Mac
  • Twin Grove Campground is about 22 miles north of Harrisburg, off I-81.

Jonestown KOA, about 20 miles North of Harrisburg, off I-81.

We use Twin Grove, it's very nice.
I've never stayed at Jonestown but, I've been told it's nice.

While you're in the area, go to Pottsville and tour The Yuengling Brewery. It's an interesting tour.

The above CG's may be a little farther from Harrisburg than you wanted to camp but, they are options.

Enjoy your stay in the Harrisburg area.

    x2.

There are lots of campgrounds in Gettysburg, which is about 40 miles away. Probably too far, but a great place to visit.
  • Twin Grove is a very nice CG but may be a bit too far away from the area for touring. You might want to think about a CG in Lancaster. This way you can be close to all the Lancaster stuff and about a 35 minute ride from downtown Harrisburg state capitol building. Also Hershey has some sightseeing interests.

Where & what did you plan on seeing while in the area?
  • Check out campgrounds in Carlisle, there may be some halfway between Carlisle and Harrisburg. You could also stay at Hershey, not far from Hbg,
  • We liked Western Village in Carlisle, for being handy to Gettyburg, Harrisburg, etc. The park was ok, typical family RV park.
  • Twin Grove has lots of amenities for the kids, but if you get a site on the side of the hill and it is hot, you'll bake. If you are camping the week of July 13th, I'd skip Twin Grove. Both the East Coast Xterra Challenge and Coal Mine Cruiser Classic are that week at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park. Both events use Twin Grove for camping.

Jonestown really doesn't have any amenities, other than the creek, but it is a much more shady campground.

Hershey High Meadow Campground is nice. The pull through section is a little snug though. There's a bunch of stuff to see and do around Hershey (aside from the park) as well as your other site seeing plans.

  • Is the "old" Jonestown KOA operating?

Not sure if they reopened after giving up the KOA name.
  • Agree with other replies to your post re: Twin Grove CG. It is very nice but may be a bit far a way. Hershey Highmeadow - we've never stayed there but a friend of mine does and likes it. If proximity to Harrisburg is required then I'd also consider Western Village RV Park in Carlisle. I've seen opinions here and rvparkreviews.com that run the whole spectrum but our experience was very good.

We have experience with only two CG's in the Lancaster area so far - Old Mill Stream and the Jellystone Park at Quarryville. The latter is aimed at families/kids like Twin Grove and is quite pricey. Old Mill Stream is right next to Dutch Wonderland; we've not been there since our pop-up days (about 18 years maybe). What I recall is an older CG with unusual layouts (in a "T" shape) for the sites.

Enjoy no matter which one you pick. Safe travels.
