The eight weeks is because it is likely they will not begin to cut the check until the window is closed on the customer filing with the credit card company for unauthorized charges. That is also why the company would only issue a refund on the same credit card. Makes the paper trail easy. Otherwise it will be very difficult for them (labor wise) to send MasterCard or Visa the copies of checks, the transaction reports from other cards etc. and tie them to the same customer. It is especially true with card transactions since the transactions only show the card numbers, not the card holder's name and address. If the charge and refund are not on the same card, big problem for the merchant to tie the two transactions to the same person. Problem can be the same with a check, especially since once the customer has the refund check and has it cashed, there would be nothing the merchant could do if the customer also did file a complaint. No way to get the money back from a cashed check, where a double refund on a card can be reversed easily. BTW, under the Big Kahuna's definition, every business is a monopoly. You have to abide by the businesses policy or go elsewhere. You want to buy something from Macys, you abide by Macys policies or else you go to Bloomingdales. If you want a site at a park that uses RA, abide by their policies or go to another park.
