Headed south for just two weeks

We are relatively new to RV'ing, although hubby is an almost retired truck driver. Bought a used truck and older 5th wheel, 28 ft., last fall and decided to try out the RV life. Have taken a couple of quick overnight trips to get used to it, that's all the time we've had. Headed for Florida, god willing, on 2-23-19 for a 2 week test trip. We've made reservations at one park, Hickory Point, near Tarpon Springs, for 2 days, but are wondering about parks further south, availability, prices, traffic, all of that. We haven't been to Florida in 15 years. Hoping for lots of advice from folks that are in parks down there...thank you!
  • I'm not looking for any official numbers. I'm just wondering what RV'ers have found in recent years.

Thank you...do all the parks require full payment in advance?

I'm not sure there has ever been a survey as to whether ALL of the parks require full payment in advance. There are probably several thousand rv parks in Florida with many periodically changing there terms of payment.
  • So envy you right now! Have Fun... Dont overthink stuff. There are a couple of apps you can use to find BLM 14day no hookup free camping and of course this and another rvforum to ask for specific details.

Just hit the road and enjoy!
  • Give this place a try. In general, south of I-4 the weather is better and the parks are more expensive. South of Ft Myers is usually booked a year in advance. You may get lucky and catch a cancellation.

Also in that area is Lake Manatee SP.
