Even when no storm it can be very windy at OBX. Your camper may rock and shake a bit it night if it really starts to whip. Good thing is that wind helps keep the bugs down and feels good when really hot.

Plenty of fuel choices on the OBX.....

Also several smaller grocery stores, and even a Walmart in Kitty Hawk.

I live on Hwy 64 heading to OBX. Fuel not a problem there you have Rocky Mount, Plymouth, Williamston, and Columbia. On OBX you are also fine getting both fuel and diesel in Rodanthe, Hatteras,etc. Regarding food there are groceries in several location but not your typical Walmart. You will be fine,just catch you food in the sound and ocean...that is what a lot do.

Have fun..it is a really nice place if you love finding isolated beaches to spend the day.

IF I understand B's question, he is asking IF there IS gas on the OBX. Not as to the cost. His concern is to be out there and run low on gas and needing to run inland.The cost is not mattermuch if a few cents different if you have to drive an hour to get cheaper gas.

Gas is not that much more, I burn 3/4 tank in each direction, so I have to refill before leaving Hatteras, I just go to Island Convenience in Rodanthe, never more than 10-12 cents more than I get it at home, usually not even that much more...

Thanks for the reply. Not looking for the cheapest just dont want to go un prepared. We have had to evacuate a couple of times when on the coast. Trying to be prepared. We are coming from the great state of Tennessee and will be low on fuel when we get close and dont want to be caught in a fuel rush to leave . Thanks Larry

when I lived there, there was maybe 4 or 5 cents difference between the north beach prices and the mainland. Down on Hatteras it's higher, but so is everything else. There's nothing cheap on the OBX....
