We are in a fl state park in the keys. Daughter SNL and grandson came in today in a rental 25footer. They were trying to get the 3 year. old to sleep in a strange bed /place , never camped before, so they are running the ac fan for white noise. Anyway, to get to the point, the neighbors came over with an attitude and asked them to cut their ac off because they were sleeping with the windows open and it was bothering them. My daughter came over ( we are on the other side ) and asked me if that was normal. I went over and listened to the ac, no clanging,no rattling fan,just a roof ac doing its thing, not quiet but none are.I told them to run it if they want to and screw the neighbors. They can close the windows on that side or cut their own fan on ( I am sure it is much quieter ). Told her if they came back to send them to see me. Opinions?

If someone told me to turn off my air conditioner, I would tell them where to go....

We had one like that in the Lassen Volcanic park cg. Our fridge wasn't working on propane so we had to run our honda generator during generator hours. This women made three or four trips to the CG host to complain. The host came over to talk to us and I pointed out we only ran it during generator hours and didn't do that most of the time since we were away from the CG most of the time.I went over to talk to the woman and she was completely unreasonable, she expected complete quiet while in a CG. I should have told her to go Boondocking but she finally just packed up and left.People like that are very rare, that's the only one that sticks in my mind from 40 years of camping. Camper are almost all the better sort of people.

Unreasonable comes to mind. If you want total quiet then you do need to boondock in the wide open spaces.

I agree that it is a very rare to find a neighbor who is so sensitive to a little bit of sound. Have fun camping the rest of the time, and I would be telling the neighbor where to go to!Fred.

I am hypersensitive to sound but take the onus upon myself to deal with it. Certain harmonics, repetitive sounds, or sounds that vary in modulation are enough to put me over the edge. Can't take whistling or humming, either. It actually stems from when I was severely hypoglycemic-noise intolerance is a symptom. So I find my own white noise, use ear plugs, or just do my best to ignore. It is VERY tough sometimes but I recognize I am the one with the problem.

I can totally relate to Crowe here, though I don't have a medical reason for being sensitive to noise. And like Crowe, we came up with a solution which blocks most noise (deep bass, though, still booms through). Actually, I think I wouldn't mind the neighbors' a/c running (as long as it sounded normal and wasn't clanging or something); that could be very soothing. Siding with everyone here on this issue.

This is exactly what my first thought was. Those "seasoned" RVrs wanted to teach the newbies how things are supposed to be in their world. All it takes is one jerk causing one experience like this to turn somebody off of RVing for life.

Running an AC is normal RV noise. In my book, taking care of babies and old people allow one to go a little bit further than normal any way.

I'm surprised no one came up with my solution!!!!! Turn the A/C off and let the baby cry......yeah, that'll make them sleep better!!!!! No, the neighbor that said to turn the A/C off is out of line. :)

It's the 'all about me' attitude. They want it their way.
If they asked me to turn off my A/C, I'd just smile and walk away.
There's nothing you can say to that type of person to make them understand and, it's not worth arguing. ;)

The "me" people and the stupid people seem to show up everywhere... not raised very well. :) :)

From Curry Hammock...cool in the morning, a/c later in the day AND evening when the breeze stops. Hope not to meet that person I have an answer.

I have gotten dirty looks from neighbors when I use my hatchet to chop up firewood. Some people just like to complain.
